NOX
- a Diablo rip-off, or a stand-on-its-own game?
Anyone
who has played Diablo (who hasn't ?) will certainly be right
at home with NOX. The look and feel is continually familiar,
but enjoys a flavor of its own. The interface is streamlined
and has wonderful hot keys for item and spell selection.
Characters
are selected from three classes. Each class has its own
armor, weapons, and spells. NOX also offers death match
RPG, nothing but battling each other.
Characters
enjoy more head bashing and spell casting as more emphasis
is put on action. Fear not any dire consequences of this
rampant killing as no ill effects come from being evil.
So feel free to destroy all those who stand in your way
or just happen to be on the screen. Destroying the many
objects placed throughout the game was always interesting.
Westwood included what seemed to be a never-ending supply
of bad guys to dispatch. The action is pretty constant and
enjoyable, with no adjustments, so be prepared for some
intense battles.
The
cut scenes used the game engine to further the story along. They
were definitely enjoyable and had Westwood's sense of humor
built in. As for the story line: kill bad guys, find pieces
of artifact, kill more bad guys, use artifact to kill big
bad guy. Still, it makes for a good RPG.
The
attention to detail is wonderful, allowing for nice eye
candy throughout the game. Take time to notice the statues,
bones, wall hangings, and other items that help induce this
wonderful atmosphere. There is nothing noteworthy to set
this game apart, or to jump up and down and get excited
about. There are better games available. So why buy NOX?
It's fun, it's good, and has plenty of RPG elements done
well. With so few RPGs available don't let the Diablo clone
idea scare you away.
Clone
or not, NOX is a good RPG that will be enjoyed by many.
If RPGs, with lots of action, are your thing, this is a
worthy addition to any gamer's library.
Gaming
Goodness: Thumbs up.
