new portal provides a home town home page for Brown, Door,
Kewaunee, and Oconto counties

There
was a song a few years ago about a trip to Titletown. It
was titled We Go Green Bay.
Its
time for an update. Now
you can GoGreenBay
online. As in www.GoGreenBay.com.
Starting
June 1, Internet users will have access to something new
a Green Bay-oriented home page, info page, or however
one wants to use it.
Users
of the free service can customize the page to highlight
whatever they want, whether news, weather or local information.
They can even choose the design for the top of the page,
from the inevitable football artwork to bright red barns
or the Tower Drive bridge.
The
slogan is Your home town home page, and GoGreenBay
is exactly that.
There
are many national portals such as myexcite.com and myyahoo.com,
but their main weakness is that they have no local content,
said Steve Laux, Director of Internet Operations for The
Green Bay News-Chronicle. GoGreenBay capitalizes on
this by offering a portal site that is very heavy in local
content as well as providing all of the national and international
content that these other sites contain.
Its
not limited to Green Bay, either; related sites include
GoDoorCounty, GoKewauneeCounty and GoOcontoCounty, the counties
where parent company Brown County Publishing owns local
newspapers. Those sites have their own special graphics.
So at
any of the sites, youll be able to get the latest
news headlines from your home county, as well as Green Bay.
Youll also get the latest, constantly-updated headlines
from the Associated Press.
The
new site wont replace the News-Chronicles or
Door County Advocates Web site, but will serve as
a central site with the main headlines from each county.
Links are provided to the individual papers.
GoGreenBay.com is a site created by a company of the same
name. Go Green Bay.com, News-Chronicle New Media is an offshoot
of the News-Chronicle focusing on new media endeavors including
Web design, hosting, Dot Com Magazine and multimedia ad
campaigns.
News
is not the only feature on GoGreenBay.com. The site boasts
a live weather map, Packers links, events calendar, Web
search, maps, community Web sites, online shopping, stocks,
e-mail and forums.
And,
of course, you can read the articles from each months
Dot Com Magazine.
The
page can be customized for your preferences. Want the weather
but not the stocks? Want to move the Packers news to the
top? After registering, you can do just that - and get a
friendly welcome as well.
Simply
put, GoGreenBay.com is everything that the user wants and
nothing that they dont because they decide how and
what the site is to them, Laux said.
And
if you want to get away from the news, there is another
section with fun things to do. It features links ranging
from wild sports to games, from golf to nightclubs.
On the
more serious side, there are info links for each of the
four counties covered.
GoGreenBay.com
is a powerful information portal providing news and information
from a local as well as international level, Laux
said.
GoGreenBay
is hoping to be the startup or home page for users when
they begin their Internet experience. On this site they
can get the news and information on their terms, by customizing
what they want and how it looks, and then go on to search
the Web, get maps, etc. and do all the other types of Web
surfing they normally do.
