Hunting safety

With the gun deer season upon us (November 20-28), here are a few safety suggestions to consider:

Wear blaze orange clothing from the waist up. It is instant communication that can save your life.

Always know where the other hunters are in your area. About 50 percent of hunting accidents involve members of the same hunting party.

Pay close attention to children playing outdoors. There have been incidents where hunters from afar have mistaken children for moving deer. If possible, have children wear a blaze orange hat while playing outside.

Always handle firearms safely. Many hunting accidents result from accidental self-inflicted wounds.
