De Pere

More rinks closed in unusual warmth
The city of De Pere Friday became the latest community to close its ice rinks because of the unseasonably warm weather.

City officials said rinks will be closed until further notice.

Green Bay, Bellevue and other municipalities with outdoor ice rinks have been shutting down the facilities with temperatures rising above the freezing level in recent weeks.

Brown County

Library breaks circulation record
The Brown County Library has reported a record-setting circulation of more than 2.1 million items in 2001, a 19.3 percent increase over 2000.

The system's year-end report also notes nearly 1.228 million visits to the library during 2001, a 9.1 percent increase.

Director Pat La Violette said she is pleased people continue to rely on the library for informational, educational and recreational materials in both good and difficult economic times.

Kewaunee

Teen convicted of tavern burglary
A Denmark teen accused of being involved with a break-in to a town of Luxemburg tavern has been convicted in Kewaunee County Circuit Court of a felony burglary count.

Eugene P. Daoust, 17, is scheduled to be sentenced March 27. Two misdemeanor counts were dismissed in exchange for his no contest plea.

Daoust and two others broke into the 54 Run tavern on Aug. 27 and stole various items. The other defendants - David F. Pleau, 32, and Cory J. Hendricks, 17, both of Green Bay - are scheduled for sentencing March 1 and 15, respectively.
