For 12 years, the Salvation Army has provided area parents with a summer day camp for their children filled with fun and learning. And this year is no different.
"Parents don't have to worry about where their children are," said Bree Gegare, assistant to director of Corps Community Center. "They know that they are at a fun, safe place."
The Salvation Army's Camp Hope, located at the Corps Community Center, 626 Union Court, Green Bay, welcomes children between ages seven and 12.
While at Camp Hope, children can participate in a variety of activities including swimming, field trips, crafts, gardening and library and computer lab time. The children go on half-day and full-day field trips that include Camps Logging Museum and Green Bay area pools.
"We try to take them to places all over Wisconsin," Gegare said. Camp Hope is a biblical-based camp and teach religion classes along with others. Every teacher at the camp is an area college student pursuing a degree in some type of education.
Price of the day camp is based last year's household income and ranges from $15 to $105 per week, per child. Parents can register their children for day camp on April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A $20 fee is due at time of registration to save child's spot and a Camp Hope T-shirt.
"I think people our drawn to our camp because it is affordable and for the education we provide," Gegare said.
When registering, families must bring in their taxes from last year in order to determine a cost. Those who do not bring them in will not be able to register, Gegare said.
The camp runs from June 10 to August 23, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Extended hour care is available for $2 per hour from 4 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
