Report cards can mean some fun

People normally wouldn't think of the words "studying" and "VHS," or "studying" and "XBox," in the same sentence.

But Family Video stores are offering students the opportunity to connect the two with their "Report Card A" program.

Students from kindergarten through college who have A's on their report cards can bring those cards to any Family Video store during the month of June and get a free two-day video or game rental. This is the 10th year the Springfield, Ill.-headquartered company has run the promotion in its 250 stores.

"It's had a great response," said Sarah Reiffers, manager at the store at 600 N. Military Ave., Green Bay. "Students are asking us about it year round. Most are pretty familiar with the program, they bring their cards in with them right away."

The program gives one free rental for each A on the report card, one per visit. It is good on any movie or game except the one-day rentals. Reiffers said the older students have been beginning to pick up on the promotion in the past few years.

"It used to be more grade school, high school kids," she said. "But recently there's been a lot of college kids asking about it, so we started including them. It's becoming more popular with them, they sure like it."

The program awards more than $1 million in rentals each year at all of its stores. Vice president Eric Hoogland said in a press release that Family Video participates in it to reward students of all ages for their hard work, a sentiment Reiffers echoed.

"It's a way for us to get involved with the students," Reiffers said. "It's a way for us to say, 'Hey, great job on that report card.'"
