HOWARD - A semitrailer truck carrying 44 cows rolled over Monday morning, spilling several animals onto a highway and closing a ramp for at least seven hours.
The semi rolled over about 8 a.m. Monday and closed the ramp from northbound U.S. 41 to southbound Interstate 43 for most of the day, Lt. Keith Barth of the Brown County Sheriff's Department said.
Two of the cows had to be shot on the scene, and the others were to be taken to a mink farm to be put down and used for feed, Barth said.
The truck was on its way to Green Bay Dressed Beef, and the plant wouldn't take the cows after the crash, he said.
