Attorney General Jim Doyle announced Tuesday that his office has settled an environmental lawsuit against a Pulaski boat manufacturing company that he said was violating air pollution laws.
Carver Boat Corp. has agreed to pay $65,000 in forfeitures, assessments and fees for air pollution violations at its two luxury boat manufacturing operations.
The Department of Justice complaint said Carver Boat's manufacturing process uses substantial quantities of products which contain styrene, a hazardous air contaminant. The complaint also said the company violated pollution laws by exceeding emission limits for volatile organic compounds, using a solvent not authorized by permit for cleaning, and failing to report volatile organic compound emissions to the Department of Natural Resources.
Doyle said Carver Boat has since fixed the violations.
The Department of Justice filed the lawsuit at the request of the DNR. Brown County Circuit Court Judge Richard J. Dietz approved the settlement.
