Resch finds the right Tool to open arena

A WWE event and Ringling Brothers' circus are also among the opening acts

News-Chronicle

The Resch Center will usher in a new era in a very hard-core way.

The first act scheduled for the new Brown County arena will be modern rockers Tool on Sept. 2, one day before the previously announced WWE SmackDown event. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Tool, a band with a huge following that keeps the identities of its members closely guarded, came onto the rock scene to fill the post-Nirvana void and became very successful with its 1993 release "Undertow." The band's popularity waned in the late 1990s, but the 2001 release "Lateralus" brought the band's music back onto mainstream rock radio and was hailed by some critics.

The band represents the first of many larger acts that will be booked for the $34 million, 11,000-seat venue, which was designed to host both sporting and entertainment events.

Tickets for the Tool show, with opener Tomahawk, can be purchased through TicketStar and Ticketmaster for $35. Tickets can be purchased at Ticketmaster and TicketStar outlets, by calling 494-3401 or 494-1414 or by visiting www.ticketstaronline.com or ticketmaster.com.

Other events scheduled for the Resch Center include the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus Sept. 5-8, the World's Toughest Rodeo Nov. 1-2, Sesame Street Live Nov. 21-24 and Champions on Ice on Dec. 20.

The Resch Center is the third and newest component of the Brown County Veterans Memorial Complex, 1901 S. Oneida St., Ashwaubenon.
