A Denmark teenager charged with first-degree intentional homicide is scheduled back in Kewaunee County Circuit Court Friday for a pretrial conference.
Kent Kuss, 17, is accused of fatally shooting Jason Gretzon, 22, of Denmark. According to police reports, the incident occurred early in the morning of May 19 near the intersection of County V and Langes Corners Road in the town of Franklin.
Kuss and two other Denmark-area teens were with Gretzon after they drove away from a party. Kuss is accused of taking a handgun away from Gretzon, who apparently had exited his vehicle to shoot at a stop sign. Kuss allegedly pointed the firearm toward Gretzon's neck before shooting him. Kuss and Gretzon had been arguing beforehand about whether they should shoot at cows.
Kuss' attorney, Jevon Jaconi, is seeking jury from outside of Kewaunee County to decide the case. Jaconi has filed a motion arguing pretrial publicity has prejudiced his client's right to a "fair and impartial trial."
Kewaunee County District Attorney Troy Dalebroux said his office will likely oppose the motion for a change of venue. He also noted the purpose of Friday's pretrial conference is to schedule hearings on motions filed in the case.
Kuss has remained in custody in Kewaunee County Jail on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
