Lambeau Field is open for business - and weddings, parties or other occasions. The Packers announcedThursday they were starting to take reservations for the use of facilities in Lambeau Field Atrium, the large concourse and club area along the east side of the stadium.
Team director of special events Dee Geurts-Bengtson said more than 70 events had been scheduled, but no contracts had been signed. She said her office had more than 1,000 contacts from people interested in using the atrium, not only from Wisconsin, but areas ranging from Kansas to Canada "and even in Chicago."
The facilities available include a banquet room on the second level (available only during the off-season), a large hall on the fourth, or club, level and the main floor of the atrium.
Prices range from $150 for half of the small banquet room (seating 30) to $5,000 for use of the main floor during the football season. Food and beverage service is extra.
Of course, the facilities won't be available on game days, making reserving dates a bit difficult for Geurts-Bengtson.
"Until we get the schedule, we can't book during the regular season on Thursdays, Sundays or Mondays," she said. (Or, for that matter, Saturdays late in the season, weekends during the playoffs, or Thursdays through Mondays during the preseason.)
Rentals are set at three levels, one during the January-May period, slightly higher on Mondays through Thursdays June-September, and highest on Fridays and Saturdays during the last half of the year.
The club room, dubbed the "Lambeau Legends" room, can be subdivided into four smaller rooms, named after Packers greats Johnny Blood, Bart Starr, Willie Davis and Paul Hornung. The combined area can hold 368 people for banquets and 700 for a reception. That includes the club-seat concourse and a "glass box" room that overlooks the seating bowl and field.
Geurts-Bengtson said the prices are higher than other banquet facilities because "we're providing the Lambeau entertainment experience."
The floor of the atrium can hold 790 people for a banquet and 1,400 for a reception. Users can use the Lombardi Avenue entrance to the atrium, while the Packer Pro Shop and Packer Hall of Fame are accessed through the Oneida Street entrance.
By the way, the name is Lambeau Field Atrium. Earlier releases had called the area "Titletown," but Geurts-Bengtson said the name "Lambeau Field" was known better nationally. She said the team wants to work with local lodging operators in bringing national events to the city and to the atrium.
She said the requests so far have been "a good mix" of personal and business events.
Granted, there have been some events at the stadium in the past - it seems every season, there's a wedding or two in the parking lot - but team president Bob Harlan said the new facility will provide more opportunities in a more appropriate setting.
"I stood on the 50-yard line for a baptism one February. I didn't want to do that anymore," he said.
Blaze Brigman, general manager of the KI Convention Center and the Regency Suites, said he welcomed the new atrium.
"We understand that this atrium will bring tourism dollars to the area," he said. "Realistically, this will help make Green Bay a year-round destination."
