The Marines are coming home soon.
Most of the Green Bay Marine Corps reservists who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom have returned to Camp Pendleton, Calif., as of Wednesday, according to Lt. Col. Patrick T. Herzog.
No date for a return to Green Bay has been set, but Herzog said the unit was expected to stay at Camp Pendleton for a week for equipment maintenance, personnel administrative work and routine medical checks.
About 75 of the 91 Marines deployed have returned. A small group has stayed in southwest Asia to prepare equipment for transportation home.
With the return date uncertain, no plans for a return ceremony have been made. The unit from Detachment, Bulk Fuel Co. B., 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve served 4 1/2 months supporting the I Marine Expeditionary Force based out of Camp Pendleton.
They provided bulk-fuel transport, storage and distribution capabilitiess as well as water purification, electrical and other general engineering support functions.
The unit shipped out of Green Bay on Jan. 26 after being called up the previous week. They faced up to two years of active duty.
Reservists normally spend one weekend a month and two weeks a year with their reserve unit during a six-year commitment.
