An 18-year-old Green Bay man accused of charging a squad car head-on during a high-speed chase with police could face prison time for the Monday morning incident.
Making an initial appearance in Brown County Circuit Court on Monday, Jacob Till was charged with two counts of second degree reckless endangerment, one count of fleeing and a misdemeanor charge of causing injury by drunken driving. If convicted of all four counts, Till could face up to 24 years and six months in prison and $62,000 in fines. At the hearing, a court commissioner set Till's bail at $1,000 cash.
According to the criminal complaint, Till was drag racing a friend in the Howard Industrial Park at 1:54 a.m. Monday when a Brown County Sheriff's deputy spotted the vehicles. While Till's friend was getting questioned by the deputy, Till stuck his head out of the window and asked if he was in trouble too. When the deputy assured Till he'd be with him shortly, Till sped away.
The deputy requested the help of nearby squad cars.
A deputy driving north on Lakeview Drive who heard the dispatch activated his lights after he spotted the fleeing vehicle driving in the oncoming lane.
Instead of pulling over, the vehicle accelerated until it reached a speed of 108 miles per hour, the complaint said.
As it neared the squad car, the vehicle swerved across the center line and charged the police car. The deputy swerved into a ditch to avoid a collision.
Near the intersection of Velp and Glendale avenues, Till lost control of his car and crashed into a light pole.
Hill was transported to St. Vincent Hospital, where he was treated for injuries before being released to police. A 19-year-old passenger in Hill's car was also treated for injuries at St. Vincent.
Till is scheduled to make his next court appearance Thursday.
