Green Bay police are looking for a sexual assault suspect who police say accosted a woman Sunday night along the railroad tracks between Military Avenue and Fisk Street.
A woman in her early 20s told police she was attacked by a man with shaggy hair and a mustache while walking through a West Side neighborhood at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. When the woman noticed she was being followed, she ran toward the railroad tracks to escape the suspect, said Lt. Jim Arts of the Green Bay Police Department.
The suspect chased her down and tackled her. The woman resisted him and shouted for help. The suspect let go when another man shouted at him.
"A man who lived in the area was letting his dog out and heard her screaming for help and crying," Arts said. "When the (suspect) saw he was being watched, he got up and ran."
The suspect fled west on the railroad tracks and disappeared between buildings near Military Avenue, Arts said. The victim suffered minor injuries from the attack, including scratches on her chest and arms.
Police said they are compiling a composite sketch of the suspect and expect to release it today.
The suspect is described as a thin white male in his mid-20s, approximately 5-feet 10-inches tall, with long shaggy black hair and a mustache. At the time of the attack, the suspect was wearing a blue shirt, black pants and a baseball cap.
Arts said Green Bay detectives are working with Ashwaubenon police to determine whether the West Side attack might be related to similar incident that occurred Sunday night near Holmgren Way and Glory Road.
While taking a walk through an Ashwaubenon neighborhood Sunday night, a 28-year-old woman was pursued by a naked man who jumped out of a running vehicle parked near the roadside, said Ashwaubenon Commander Jim Molloy.
The man was driving an older two-toned brown and tan van. When other cars approached the intersection, the suspect fled the scene in the vehicle. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 30s, weighing about 165 pounds with brown hair, short on top and long in the back.
Anyone with information about the West Side assault is asked to call the Green Bay Police Department at 448-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 432-7867.
Information about the Ashwaubenon incident should be directed to the Ashwaubenon Department of Public Safety at 492-2995.
