Johnnie might not be marching home, but he will be riding in on a bus this morning.
The public is invited to join in a homecoming celebration as local Marines are scheduled to return to Green Bay this morning after a four-and-a-half-month overseas deployment, which included operations in the war in Iraq.
The homecoming will take place at the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center, 2949 Ramada Way.
The Main Body of Marines from Detachment, Bulk Fuel Company B, 6th Engineer Support Battalion, 4th Force Service Support Group, United States Marine Corps Reserve based in Green Bay "are arriving early at O'Hare and will be transported by bus to Green Bay with an arrival of approximately 9:30 a.m.," said First Sergeant Mark Hinch, "at which time there will be a small, family-get-together, party thing."
There will be music and food set up for the celebration, which will last between one and two hours.
The Main Body consists of 75 of the 91 Marines originally deployed; the Rear Party remains in Iraq but will be home sometime between mid-July and late August, Hinch said. Their families have been notified.
"Their gear has to be prepared for a certain cleanliness level before they are allowed to leave the country," he said.
