A 23-year-old man who died in a fiery crash early Sunday morning had a blood alcohol level of .19, nearly twice the legal limit, said Lt. Jim Arts of the Green Bay Police Department.
Arts said the BAC level is only a preliminary figure. The Brown County Medical Examiner's office is conducting a legal test to confirm the results.
Ramiro Muro-Gutierres of Green Bay died at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the Jalisco Grocery Store at 1354 Main St. The accident caused a gas leak in the building and forced several tenants who lived above the store out of their homes.
Muro-Gutierres was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was ejected from his SUV.
His 17-year-old passenger, a man from Northbrook, Ill., was able to escape from the burning vehicle and suffered only minor injuries.
Police said autopsy results show Muro-Gutierres's fatal injuries included a massive skull fracture and cervical vertebrae fractures.
