News-Chronicle NEW FRANKEN Rosary Rally for Peace in New Franken The 20th Annual Rosary Rally for Peace, sponsored by the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima, will be held 2:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at Our Lady of Good Help, 4047 Chapel Drive, New Franken. Maintained by the Green Bay Diocese as a Marian Shrine, the original chapel was built in memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary's appearance to Adele Brice on Oct. 9, 1859. On Oct. 8, 1871, the "Great Fires of Northern Wisconsin," popularly known as the Peshtigo Fire, raged. Families, including their livestock, took shelter in the shrine, which itself was in the path of the fire. After a night of prayer, the fire ceased. Everything in the area was ruined, except for the recently erected school, convent and chapel. The five acres of the shrine remained green. The outsides of the fence posts were charred and the insides were untouched. Bring lawn chairs. For more information, call 866-2571.
