Local news briefs News-Chronicle Green Bay Police seek help in attempted assault The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Police are asking for help identifying an attacker in an attempted sexual assault. A lone female jogger was attacked on a University arboretum trail at about 8:40 a.m. Thursday. The woman escaped with minor injuries. The suspect is a white male, about 5-foot-8-inches to 5-foot-11-inches tall with a thin-to-average build. The man was wearing blue jeans, tan work boots and a dark ski mask. Anyone with information should call University police at 465-2300. Joggers are urged to be aware of their surroundings, jog with a partner and consider carrying pepper spray or a whistle. Joannes Water Park closed Staffing shortages have forced the Joannes Water Park to move up its closing date, originally scheduled for today. The pool is now closed. Jackson School celebrates first day Jackson School is hosting a First Day of School Celebration on Tuesday and parents are invited to come to school from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Activities, a chance to meet teachers and a picnic lunch are planned. The lunch cost for adults is $2 and can be paid on the first day of school. Other important adults in the child's life are invited to attend if parents cannot be there. New labor negotiator selected Don Vander Kelen has been selected as the city of Green Bay's new lead labor negotiator. Her will serve as a consultant to the city and will work with the Mayor's Labor Negotiation Team. His first job will be to close contracts that remain open from previous years. Vander Kelen has settled more than 2,000 contracts in the private and municipal sectors in the last 50 years. He is 77. Mayor Jim Schmitt said he is the right person for the job because of the city's $5 million budget deficit.
