Brown County Green Bay left turn lanes to close The state Department of Transportation has announced the temporary closure of left turn lanes at several intersections throughout Green Bay while road improvements are being made during September and early October. Starting Monday, motorists will not be able to make left turns from State 29 east-bound and west-bound or State 172 east-bound and west-bound to Packerland Drive, the DOT said. The turn lanes will be temporarily closed while the intersections are being reconfigured to provide for safer turns. The DOT said it expects to complete the work by Oct. 6. Other intersections being upgraded include State 32/Ashland Avenue to Lombardi Avenue, State 32/Ashland Avenue to Cormier Road and State 32/Ashland Avenue to Hansen Road from Sept. 15 to Oct. 6; State 172 to Babcock Road from Oct. 6 to Nov. 3; and State 32/Ashland Avenue to Pilgrim Way from Oct. 13 to Nov. 11. To ease traffic congestion on game day, the Ashland Avenue/Lombardi Avenue intersection will be open for five hours both before and after home Packer games, the DOT said. Packers' punter will give cancer the boot Cancer survivor and Green Bay Packers' punter Josh Bidwell will be punting to help local kids kick cancer during the 2003 season. For every punt he puts inside the 20-year line, Bidwell will donate $125 to the Angel Fund, Inc, a local charity founded to relieve the financial burden of medical care for Brown County children diagnosed with cancer. For each contribution Bidwell makes, the Packers organization will give a matching donation. Bidwell said he's supporting the charity, now in its inaugural year, to show his appreciation for the support he received when facing his own battle against cancer. Bidwell was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1999, just prior to his rookie season. Because Bidwell was 11 days away from his first-regular season game, he was ineligible for the NFL's insurance program. "I know the financial burden cancer treatment puts on a family," Bidwell said in a press release. "This is my way of saying thank you for the support while helping ease the financial burden of those who are in need."
