A two-car collision that killed 38-year-old Jeffrey Rahlf of Green Bay and his 59-year-old mother, Carol Zank of Neenah, is still under investigation.
The crash occurred at 11:55 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of State 96 and County NN in the town of Glenmore. Denmark resident Eric Mleziva, 16, was traveling southbound on County NN and allegedly failed to obey a stop sign and collided with Rahlf and Zank, who died as a result of their injuries, according to information from the Brown County Sheriff's Department.
"Obviously, we have to look at all the facts, and our accident reconstruction team will take a look at each vehicle and the skid marks to determine whether speed was a factor," said Capt. John Gossage of the Brown County Sheriff's Department. "It appears Mr. Mleziva failed to stop at a sign. That's how the crash occurred."
Mleziva is being treated at Aurora BayCare Medical Center for life-threatening injuries. His status is not being released.
Gossage said the department did a blood draw - a department protocol whenever a serious accident occurs - which will determine whether or not alcohol was a factor in the crash.
"Obviously the occupants of the trucks are unable to talk to us ... we have to obtain ancillary information," Gossage said. The investigation will attempt to determine "where the driver was before the crash, if we know where he was heading, where he was coming from, things like that will maybe shed some light, answer some questions for us. We have to try to piece this together."
