The massive glass wall that greets visitors to the Resch Center allows for impressive views into the building's lobby. Except, The Salvation Army hopes, in October.
The Army and the arena are partnering up to try to fill the Army's nearly empty food shelves. They announced that food will be collected at all Resch Center events in October to help.
This month, the arena will host five Green Bay Gamblers games, concerts with Willie Nelson and Toby Keith, the Eagles and matchbox twenty, and the T.J. Maxx Tour of Gymnastic Champions. An estimated 50,000 people are scheduled to attend the nine events.
The high-level goal is to have foods items blocking the windows of the Resch Center.
"Can you imagine all the families of Green Bay that are hungry right now could be fed throughout the year until the next food drive, if the people of Green Bay will come out and help us," said Major Ruth Fay of The Salvation Army.
Among preferred items are nonperishable food, cereal, meals-in-a-box, protein foods (peanut butter), soups, even diapers for families.
Along with the boxes for food, concession stands and ticket windows will have jars for donations.
Cora Haltaufderheid of PMI, the arena's management, said she had seen articles about the lack of food and combined it with a busy October schedule.
"We put out a call and said let's do a food drive," she said.
The Salvation Army serves about 150 families each week, Fay said.
"We know the Gamblers fans have stepped up in the past," said team president Rob Nicholson, "and we expect them to do the same this year."
