Richard Hietpas, a retired teacher and former administrator at Notre Dame Academy, has been named interim associate principal-academics for the school.
The school decided to name an additional associate principal after former principal Timothy Schumacher resigned in late September amid sexual misconduct allegations while he was a teacher at Premontre High School in the late 1970s and early '80s. Hietpas' position will be effective Monday.
Hietpas began his education career as a teacher at Premontre in 1963 and served for 27 years as a math teacher, coach and dean of students.
In 1990, Hietpas was named vice principal and registrar at Notre Dame. He started teaching again in 1995 and retired in June.
Since retiring, he has worked as a substitute teacher.
Tim Reilly, president of the school, said at the time of Schumacher's resignation that the school would take its time finding a new principal. Typically, contracts for administrators run the course of the school year, so the school could name a replacement for the 2004-2005 school year.
