The Northeast Wisconsin Technical College board voted Wednesday to reduce the tax levy and mill rate for its 2004 budget.
The reduction was made because of increased revenue from existing state aid to technical colleges. Aid funds are distributed based in part on student enrollments.
The authorized levy will be $400,000 less than had been approved in June.
The proposed budget had included a levy of $44,056,276, a 4.6 percent increase over the previous year. With the cut, the levy will be $43,656,276, an increase of 3.7 percent.
The mill rate will be $1.56 per $1,000 of assessed value, down from $1.61 per $1,000 last year.
NWTC student enrollment increased by 12.5 percent in the past year, with changes in services, programs and improved management functions allowing expansion in some fields while controlling costs in others with reduction or elimination in some programs, additional grant funding, increased class sizes and increased tuition and fees.
