A third generation of Gillespies will report on sports in Green Bay.
John Gillespie Jr. has been hired by WGBA-TV Channel 26 as a sports reporter. He started his duties Oct. 3.
Gillespie had been with WFXS-TV and WAOW-TV, both in Wausau, as a reporter and sports anchor.
Both his father and grandfather have covered sports in the Green Bay broadcast media. John's grandfather, Earl Gillespie, a Green Bay native, got his start with WJPG radio broadcasting Green Bay Bluejays minor league baseball before going to Milwaukee, where he called Milwaukee Braves and Green Bay Packers games before becoming sports director at WITI-TV.
His father, John Gillespie Sr., was a sports anchor and reporter at WFRV-TV Channel 5 in the 1970s, later working for WISN-TV and WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee. He currently hosts an outdoor show on Fox Sports Net.
