A public meeting regarding an agreement between state and federal governments and two paper companies that contaminated the Fox River with PCBs will take place 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Neenah Public Library, 240 E. Wisconsin St., Neenah.
The event comes after a $50 million settlement, announced Oct. 1, for the cleanup of the head of the lower Fox River on Little Lake Butte des Morts (known as Operable Unit 1). The agreement is between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, P.H. Glatfelter Co. and WTM1 Co. (formerly Wisconsin Tissue Mills).
Representatives from the U.S. Department of Justice, DNR and EPA will be available Wednesday night to answer questions concerning the agreement.
The justice department will continue to accept formal written comments on the consent decree until Nov. 17 as part of a formal 30-day comment period.
Written comments should be addressed to the Assistant Attorney General, Environment and Natural Resources Division, P.O. Box 7611, U.S. Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. 20044-7611.
