A group of conservationists has joined the Menominee Indian Tribe in challenging state approval of a high-capacity well permit for Polar Ice Water.
The group filed a petition for judicial review in Brown County Circuit Court on Friday against the Department of Natural Resources for allowing the water bottling company to pump and export spring water from the Wolf River Watershed.
Driving the petition is concern that a reduced spring flow from the bottling operation may harm the cold water trout fishery in Rabe Pond and Creek and the Wolf River.
The group filing the petition is comprised of several chapters of Trout Unlimited, the Langlade County Waterways Association and other individual parties. Midwest Environmental Advocates and Garvey & Stoddard, a Madison-based law firm, are representing the group.
