A Luxemburg-area man is free on a $20,000 bond after being arrested in connection with a Saturday convenience store robbery.
David E. Haffeman, 36, is scheduled back in Kewaunee County Circuit Court on Dec. 18 for an initial appearance. Sheriff's Department Lt. Chris Gulbrand said he expects Haffeman will be formally charged with robbery, possessing controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Saturday around 10 p.m., Gulbrand said the sheriff's department received a report of a robbery at the Main Street Station, 107 Main St., Luxemburg, where it was reported a male dressed in a black ski mask, gray sweatshirt and black jeans entered the convenience store at closing time and demanded that a female employee turn over "all of her money."
While there was no report of a weapon being shown, Gulbrand said the male party took all the available cash and fled the scene on foot. Sheriff's deputies were then immediately dispatched, he said.
Prior to the officers' arrival, Gulbrand said additional information was received involving a suspicious person in an alley, a half block east of where the robbery occurred.
A white male, who was confronted by concerned citizens in the area, left the scene abruptly in a vehicle, Gulbrand said, while a plate number obtained from the vehicle was turned over to the sheriff's department.
Based upon witness statements and evidence collected, Gulbrand said sheriff's deputies and the Luxemburg Police Department developed a suspect in the robbery. He said the suspect, Haffeman, turned himself into police on an unrelated matter on Sunday.
Upon interviewing the suspect in custody, Gulbrand said investigators implicated Haffeman in the robbery, as well as in other drug-related offenses.
Out of $842.42 taken in the robbery, Gulbrand said investigators recovered $469 and additional evidence, after completing the interview.
