With several recent attacks in the news, security officials are offering tips and classes on personal safety.
A meeting Thursday involving University of Wisconsin-Green Bay students and officials brought up several security measures after an attempted assault of a female student Tuesday.
Among measures discussed:
- The UWGB public safety office will provide students with detailed instructions for contacting campus and local law enforcement authorities in emergency and nonemergency situations.
- The public safety office will provide information about ongoing investigations to staff and students.
- A neighborhood watch organization for residence halls and apartments and a student escort service to provide safety escorts for students walking on campus will be developed.
- A personal safety and self-defense workshop will be scheduled.
The campus police already have increased patrols on campus.
Meanwhile, the Brown County Sheriff's Department and village of Bellevue will hold a meeting from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday on personal safety and public awareness. The meeting will be at the Bellevue Village Hall, 1811 E. Allouez Ave.
Capt. Randy Schultz of the department will speak on how to diminish the likelihood of becoming a victim.
The hall is about a mile south of the site of a November attack on a lone woman jogger along Verlin Road.
