To help slow the spread of influenza, local hospitals and public health departments are encouraging people to "Cover Your Cough."
The campaign is being initiated to remind those feeling under the weather to coven their nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing. The flu, common colds and other diseases can fly through the air after someone coughs or sneezes, according to a press release from the health departments.
The idea has three common-sense steps:
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue,
- Throw the used tissue away,
- Wash hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer.
To help with the campaign, signs with simple language and pictures will be used and tissues and waste baskets will be available. In some cases, surgical masks and hand sanitizer might be available.
The health departments are asking people to stay home as much as possible if they feel ill.
