Northeast Wisconsin Technical College’s new East Regional Learning Center has become a reality in Luxemburg.
NWTC East Regional Coordinator Sarah Nelson said the technical college began offering classes earlier this month in the MacPaul Center, of which NWTC is leasing about 5,000 square feet in the new 16,200-square-foot building.
NWTC’s East Region includes Algoma, Casco, Denmark, Kewaunee and Luxemburg. The college in the past has used existing non-NWTC facilities for classes in those communities, although Nelson noted a number of classes will continue to be offered at sites other than the MacPaul Center, which is located in Luxemburg between State 54 and Commerce Drive, east of Fourth Street.
In addition to the East Regional Learning Center’s office, which was previously in Casco, now located in the MacPaul Center, Nelson said NWTC has four classrooms in the building. She pointed out two rooms are set up with computer labs, one is a general classroom and another is designed for video conferences.
Nelson said the Learning Center in Luxemburg is able to send and receive video conferences from any of NWTC’s regional centers with a “direct-dial” television system.
The office at the new Learning Center in Luxemburg, Nelson said, is open from 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m–3 p.m. Friday. She also noted a bookstore that has books for any NWTC class offered there is on-site.
Nelson said an open house for the new East Regional Learning Center is planned from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 13.
The real estate broker behind the MacPaul Center said she is in the process of obtaining commitments from additional tenants for the building. While declining to discuss specifics, Mary Rubens noted she is working on finalizing lease agreements which she hopes will be completed in the near future.
While the building’s exterior is completed, Rubens said a new structure makes it possible to design the interior to the tenants’ specifications.
Construction of the MacPaul Center, which is named after Rubens’ parents, began this summer after NWTC committed to lease space there for the new East Regional Learning Center.
