In one of its largest December ceremonies in recent years, the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay will award degrees to about 400 students Saturday. The ceremony starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Weidner Center on campus.
The total includes nine master's degrees recipients. December commencement ceremonies in the past five years have ranged from 287 to 344 class members. Ellen Kort of Appleton, Wisconsin's poet laureate, will give the commencement address, while Eryn L. Wallander of Whitelaw will be the student speaker. Wallander, who also has received the UWGB Alumni Association's Outstanding Student Award, earned a degree in human biology with highest honors.
Faculty to be honored include professor V.M. Ganga Nair, a member of the natural and applied sciences faculty, who will be named to the Herbert Fisk Johnson Professorship in Environmental Studies. Nair was a founding member of the UWGB faculty in 1968.
In addition, professor Phil Clampitt will receive the Philip J. and Elizabeth B. Hendrickson Professorship for Business. Clampitt, whose expertise is in communication assessment, teaches in the communication processes academic unit.
Retired faculty member Theodor P. Korithoski will receive emeritus status. The UWGB Alumni Association will sponsor a reception at the center after the ceremony.
