Former Brown County Sheriff Tom Hinz announced Tuesday he wants to replace Sup. Ken Simons on the Brown County Board.
Hinz, of Oneida, said in a news release he is running because "it is time for a more positive and collaborative environment within the County Board." He will run against Simons, the board chairman, to represent the 24th District.
Hinz stressed he wants to bring integrity and professionalism back to the board.
Earlier this year, Simons came under fire when he made a racially tinged comment while the board was discussing appointments to the Stadium District Board. Sup. Rob Miller called for his resignation and Simons later apologized.
Hinz has a 37-year career in law enforcement, including 31 years at the Green Bay Police Department and six years as the Brown County sheriff. He said he has a reputation of getting things done at the county level.
Hinz serves on several community boards, including the Green Bay Area Drug Alliance, Crime Prevention Foundation and the United Hmong Center.

Sup. Pat Collins, who represents part of Allouez and Bellevue, announced he is running for re-election to the Brown County Board.
He is a member of the Human Services Committee and the Library Board, and serves as chair of the Human Service Board and Legislative Subcommittee.
Collins said his work on the County Board helped balance a responsible budget with needed funding for seniors, the disabled, battered women and veterans in the budget.
Collins is also on the Allouez Village Board, where he fought using Optimist Park as a site for a new village hall this year.
