A compromise on cutbacks in garbage pickup in Green Bay passed the City Council 8-4 late Tuesday.
The compromise resolution proposed by Ald. Gary Kriescher would allow city pickup at buildings with up to six apartments, instead of the four the council voted last month to approve. The ordinance would also change recycling rules to match the six-apartment rule.
The city would also provide nonresidential properties the same collection service for a fee if the property is on a regular garbage route. The new ordinance provides for a hardship clause where outside conditions would hurt the property owner.
The decision to cut back pickups to small apartment buildings had drawn fire from building owners who said they were being denied services they had received in the past without a corresponding cut in taxes.
