As always, with apologies to Jimmy Cannon, nobody asked me, but...
I believe that Saddam Hussein gave himself up after hearing that Bill LuMaye was flying to Iraq. Seems WTAQ was the only station Saddam was getting in his spidey-hole.
Congratulations to the folks at the Webster Avenue Prevea Clinic. Their parking lot has the usual number of handicapped spaces, but next to those are spots for people who - like me - are temporarily unable to easily get around. It's a nice compromise for those of us who don't want to pay for a full disabled package but do need a little assistance for a couple of weeks.
I remembered something recently that John F. Kennedy said when he was running for president. He emphasized that any politician who did not do his job because it conflicted with his religious beliefs could be considered derelict in his duty and subject to removal. I would love to have heard what JFK would have said to that meddling La Crosse bishop who pressured state lawmakers to vote their religion first in the Legislature.
There's a slight problem with the Milwaukee Brewers opening their books. The Brewers want them examined by the Selig family. The Legislature would prefer the Spanish Inquisition.
Brown County's Education and Recreation Committee held its meeting at the NEW Zoo last night. It goes to cool places like that because county parks, libraries and other items like that are under its jurisdiction. Somehow, I don't see the Metropolitan Sewerage District trying the same thing.
I'm sorry, but I don't like the idea of the presidential nominees being decided more than 12 months before the next term starts. Then again, I usually haven't liked the one guy we have left after the term starts - no matter what party he's from.
If the NFL playoffs started today, we at least would not have two more weeks of idiots yapping about what would happen if the NFL playoffs started today.
One wonders how long a stick they would have needed and on what orifice it would be used to find that cell phone the Saints receiver used in the end zone after scoring a touchdown if he had pulled that stunt while Ray Nitschke was on the field. "Can you hear ME now?"
Sorry, Saddam - that ugly mug shot of yours has a long way to go before it can match up to Nick Nolte's or Glenn Campbell's.
Oh, and we're hearing from three computers at the Bowl Championship Series that Saddam is still on the loose.
We think they're the same computers Fox Sports uses to switch satellites in order to get Packers games to Green Bay in time for the kickoff.
There's a pond across the street from my apartment, which has gradually been freezing over. What's fun is watching the same amount of ducks adapting to a smaller and smaller space. Hey quackers, go south already! And take me with you ...
We've had Iraq, the water talks, and new leaders in local communities, but my favorite story of the entire year is still the one where the bear falls out of the tree onto the trampoline.
After last week, I can identify with it even more.
