In 1996 we went on the Internet with the Green Bay News-Chronicle, and have been here ever since. During the past seven years we have been providing a service to you, dear readers, and we think you have enjoyed it, judging by the increase in readers.
We're delighted that there are so many people using our web site. In 2003 in the month of November, 83,173 different users visited us here a total of 209,340 times. There were more than 1 million pages viewed, nearly 5 million hits. We think you must like us!
Our income from providing this service does not begin to cover its expenses, and that has become a problem for us. In prior times we had been receiving help from other parts of our parent corporation, but that is no longer possible.
We do not want to charge a given amount for the service we are providing you, but we feel we must do something to help defray the costs. We have therefore come up with this idea: a voluntary subscription drive.
Other Wisconsin newspaper web sites have begun to charge for providing news, Packer coverage especially. We do not want to do this.
Please understand that you are still welcome to receive and read our web site paper. We are not going to deprive you of reading the News-Chronicle each day. This program is not intended to force you to pay us to look at what is happening with the Packers, prep sports or anything also going on that's reported in our paper.
We've historically said we would not care if we make money with the News-Chronicle, but it would be nice to at least break even. Will you help us? Are we worth it? Let us know!
