A Casco teen charged with homicide by negligent use of a motor vehicle in connection with a motorcyclist's death last summer has been bound over for trial.
Amanda L. Jerabek, 18, waived her right to a preliminary hearing Friday in Kewaunee County Circuit Court and pleaded not guilty to the felony count, which carries a maximum term of five years of initial confinement in prison, upon conviction.
The charge Jerabek faces involves her alleged use of a cell phone just prior to a July 16 fatal accident at the intersection of State 54 and Crevice Road in the town of Casco.
Darold G. Mueller, 59, of Algoma, died from injuries sustained in the crash, while his wife and motorcycle passenger, Sharon D. Mueller, 58, was seriously injured.
According to the accident report, Mueller and his wife had been westbound on 54 and were both ejected from the cycle after being struck by a car driven by Marlene M. Faltersack, 54, of Forestville.
Faltersack's vehicle had been in the eastbound lane, waiting to turn north on Crevice Road, when it was struck from behind by the car driven by Jerabek. The initial collision pushed Faltersack's vehicle into the westbound lane and into the path of Mueller's motorcycle.
Jerabek and Faltersack had both been taken to a Green Bay-area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Door County Judge D. Todd Ehlers, who has been assigned as a substitute judge in the case, set Jerabek's trial for June 15-18. A pretrial conference has been scheduled for June 4. Jerabek remains free on a $5,000 signature bond. She is being represented by Milwaukee-area defense attorney Gerald P. Boyle.
