A spring feast for the eyes By Frank Wood News-Chronicle This is the time of year when everything is exploding with color - forsythia, dandelions, apple and cherry blossoms, grass, lilacs, what have you. We drove up to Door County several times this past week to devour the "feast for the eyes," a verdant green carpet of grass bursting with dandelions and topped off with the new fruit tree buds, especially the cherries. --- UWGB had its graduation outdoors, one of its biggest ever, nearly 700 students. About half that number graduates mid-year, so typically 1,000 students go out into the world each year. St. Norbert had its largest graduation class in history, 495. Is it worth it to go on, spending four more years after high school to get a bachelor's degree from a liberal arts school like UWGB or St. Norbert? I think so. According to the statistical report of the U.S. Census Bureau, the typical liberal arts school graduate will make nearly twice as much in his or her lifetime as the high school graduate will. A college degree overall is one of the best investments a person can make. --- I get angry every time I drive into a gas station to fill up on $2-plus gasoline, and I'm able to get about 25 miles per gallon. I can only imagine how a SUV owner feels. --- No wonder three of the Fortune 500's seven biggest firms are oil companies. Frank A. Wood publisher
