Three Green Bay residents were among the many people involved in a four-vehicle crash Friday morning that blocked U.S. 41 near Little Chute.
Two were injured and taken to hospitals. All three were passengers in a van operated by Northeast Wisconsin Transportation Services.
Fong Yang, 54, and Penny Matthews, 54, were not wearing safety belts and were injured. Matthews was taken to Appleton Medical Center while Yang was flown by helicopter to Theda Clark Regional Medical Center in Neenah.
Zang Yang, 86, was restrained in his seat and not injured.
The crash was the larger of two that blocked the highway Friday. In this accident, a milk tanker driven by James Flanagin, Monroe, was traveling south and failed to stop for traffic that had slowed from two previous crashes between State 441 and Holland Road. The driver attempted to stop his tanker, swerved toward a median and hit the van in which the Green Bay passengers were riding. The van was pushed into a second van, which was pushed into a tractor-trailer unit. The tanker burst into flames and crashed into the median guardrail.
Flanagin was listed in critical condition Saturday.
Another passenger in the van, Roy Williams, 34, was injured. The driver, Sharon Landwehr, 55, Forestville, was listed in fair condition. The driver of the second van and the driver of the tractor-trailer were not injured. Two passengers in the second van received minor injuries.
