On the same day Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne Cheney, are holding a town hall meeting in Milwaukee, North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole is speaking for a Victory 2004 Rally on behalf of President Bush in Green Bay today.
Dole is in town the morning after the Republican National Committee chairman, Ed Gillespie, appeared in Ashwaubenon before Monday's Packers game, motivating Wisconsinites to vote Republican. Dole's visit also follows a Green Bay stop by two women who lost their husbands in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks; they were campaigning for Sen. John Kerry last week.
The Republican National Convention in August featured a speech by Tara Stackpole, whose husband, a firefighter, died at the World Trade Center the day of the attacks.
Today, the Bush campaign in Green Bay is relaying its message through Dole, who sought the Republican Party presidential nomination in 1999, according to the senator's Web site.
She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2002 and she serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, as well as the Agriculture, Banking and Aging committees.
She served as secretary of transportation under President Ronald Reagan. During that time she was the first woman to lead a branch of the military, the U.S. Coast Guard. Under President George H.W. Bush, she served as secretary of labor until becoming the president of the American Red Cross in 1991.
In the early 1970s she was deputy administrator of consumer affairs for President Richard Nixon.
Dole is speaking at the Radisson Hotel & Conference Center in Green Bay at 9:45 a.m. today.
