Three international awards were presented by The Salvation Army at its annual meeting Thursday.
Casey Cuene of De Pere received the highest civilian recognition of service given by The Salvation Army, the William Booth Award, named after the Methodist minister who founded the movement in England in the 1870s. Cuene was honored for his outstanding contributions to the betterment of humanity through personal participation in civic and philanthropic affairs. A member of The Salvation Army's local Advisory Board, Cuene has co-chaired the organization's Green Bay Christmas campaign for the past seven years, fostering success in teamwork and ever higher goal achievement.
Cuene is the CEO of Broadway Automotive and also has served as a board member and past president of the local YMCA. The William Booth Award has only been presented to Green Bay residents three times before - to Frederick and Patricia Baer, to Paul and Carol Schierl, and to Tim and Judy Howald.
The Others Award, given internationally in recognition of a person or organization remarkable in their willingness to help others, was awarded to Northland Cold Storage of Green Bay. For more than 20 years, Northland has provided storage for The Salvation Army when donations of large quantities of food items became available, but needed to be kept frozen.
Local resident and Salvation Army soldier Denese Eagle was the recipient of a special international Salvation Army award called the Exceptional Service Award. A soldier in Green Bay's Salvation Army Corps for more than 25 years, she has donated thousands of hours annually to the work of the Corps.
