A public information meeting for residents of Brown County concerning the Gypsy Moth Suppression Program will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hobart Village Hall, 2703 S. Pine Tree Road, south of State 172.
Topics to be discussed include biology and control of the gypsy moth, how to participate in the aerial spray program and areas of the county that have reported infestation and may qualify for treatment in 2005.
The gypsy moth is a forest and urban pest that, in large numbers, can kill trees by eating leaves during May and June. Aerial spraying and other measures are needed to prevent the damage.
The city of Green Bay has three proposed spray blocks for spring. These blocks include: - Block 1 - bordered by Trojan Drive on the north, Wood Lane on the east, Shady Oak Drive on the south, and a line from Sorrento Drive south to DeGrand Street on the west.
- Block 2 - bordered by Ninth Street on the north, Rosalie Lane on the east, John Muir Park on the south, and U.S. 41 on the west.
- Block 3 - bordered by Western Avenue on the north, Rutgers Street on the east, Mason Street on the south, and Taylor Street on the west.
Green Bay residents with questions or concerns should contact assistant city forester Eric Muecke at 448-3378. Other questions may be answered by county coordinator Barbara Piechocki, 487-2317, or the DNR's Bill McNee, 492-5930.
