This letter is addressed to all those of draftable age and to their parents and grandparents. It is all but certain that conscription will follow the election of George W. Bush. His ongoing and andless war has stretched our forces so thin that reservists and the National Guard are being pushed into combat, ill-prepared and ill-equipped. With conscription, these problems will only intensify, resulting in more deaths of servicemen and women, not to mention maimings, both physical and emotional. Just remember, war is terrible, especially one as ill-advised as this one. Families need to remember that no one will ever return the same. War has a lifelong traumatizing effect, even if one is not killed but returns physically and emotionally scarred for life.
Think carefully on November 2 as to who lied us into this war and daily wreaks havoc on the very fabric of our democracy.
