PETA claims billboard banned

News-Chronicle

The pro-animal group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is claiming a proposed billboard urging people not to eat meat was turned down by local billboard companies.

The billboard, which had a large headline, "Eat Meat and Die," listed several illnesses that are linked to improperly prepared meat. It also lists a Web site for PETA.

The group said it wanted to put up the billboard because of reports of recalls of ground beef prepared in Green Bay that may have had E.coli bacteria contamination.

PETA said it was told by Orde Advertising that the copy would be "offensive" to the area's large dairy-farming population.
